Training provider gives Booths secure future

Thirteen loss prevention investigators at Lancashire supermarket chain Booths have achieved a security & loss prevention qualification.

The diploma, gained through a tailored programme designed by Jigsaw Training, was delivered to security staff at Booths to develop the in-house loss prevention team.

The security staff members who work within Booth’s 28 North West stores were presented with their certificates by chairman of the company, Edwin Booth at Booths Central Office, Preston.

The qualification, approved and awarded by the National Open College Network and Skills for Security is a bespoke package created by leading total solutions training company Jigsaw Training.

Jigsaw developed three core elements for the programme, which took place over 12 months and included; individual learning plans, four days of knowledge based classroom training covering security legislation, roles and responsibilities and managing conflict which culminated with an exam and a 12-month practical work-based learning programme which consisted of coaching, tutoring and practical assessment.
Other bespoke areas of the programme incorporated development of skills in understanding behaviour, observations, reporting techniques, surveillance, verbal and non-verbal communication, assertiveness and handling of organised criminal activity.
James Blackhurst, Managing Director at Jigsaw Training designed the programme by first spending time with Booths security manager, Dave Hughes and investigators on the ground to ensure all roles were covered in the programme’s delivery.

He said: “The loss prevention programme was tailored in that we needed to train each individual on the job. This meant that we trained the in-house security manager to deliver some of the elements involved.

“The partnership approach with Booths meant that all students received the highest quality training and working with such a committed organisation enabled us to deliver an effective programme.”

Dave Hughes, head of loss prevention at Booths added: “The programme was great success due to the strong partnership we developed with Jigsaw, they brought in a huge amount of experience and nothing was too much trouble; the programme is a great initiative and we are confident that our loss prevention team have a wealth of current legislation knowledge which will aid their day-to-day duties.
