Training gives MITIE excellence in security

15/11/2012

A new tailored programme has been developed for MITIE’s Total Security Management business (TSM) to train control room operators and supervisors.

The Command Centre Excellence Programme, approved by the National Open College Network, is a bespoke package created by leading total solutions training company Jigsaw Training.

The programme was developed following a review of the activities at MiTec, the UK’s newest hi-tech security hub developed by MITIE, designed to protect some of the world’s largest companies, based at Craigavon, Northern Ireland.

Jigsaw developed 12 modules for the programme, working with the MITIE senior team, aimed to further develop the control room operators and supervisors to raise their skill level and give them a formal development programme.

The modules include development of skills in understanding behaviour, internal and external service, telephone technique, verbal and non-verbal communication, assertiveness and handling aggressive behaviour and written communication.

Other parts of the programme address areas including: incident control, co-ordination and observational skills, leading and managing people, managing rotas, holidays, sickness and absence, objective setting, motivating the team and delivering constructive feedback, team leader as coach and mentor and managing individual and team performance. Operators will cover seven modules and supervisors will do all 12.

Bob Forsyth, Managing Director for MITIE’s TSM business said: “The control room excellence programme is a great initiative for the total security management business and for raising standards in the security industry generally.

“We are committed to developing our people and offering them career enhancing programmes to motivate them and engender loyalty.

“Our people are our greatest asset and we are pleased to offer our control room staff and supervisors this unique opportunity for development.”

The first intake featured 12 delegates in all, six from MiTec and six from client control rooms operated by MITIE’s TSM business.

The National Open College Network is one of the largest awarding organisations in the UK with 25 years experience, working internationally providing a wide range of qualifications and units under the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF), with over 2,500 centres.
