Security Guarding Level 2

With the risk of criminal attack, terrorism and emergency situations, the role of the security officer is becoming ever more important and complex, and the need for training ever more crucial. This award is to help both private sector and public sector security officers develop their skills and prepare for the constant challenges they will face in their role. Under the Private Security Industry Act 2001, anyone working as a Security Guard industry in the United Kingdom needs to hold a Licence to Practise from the SIA and in order to obtain this Licence, you will need to hold a qualification approved by the SIA.

 

 

There are two units for this qualification:

  • The Roles and Responsibilities of Security Guards

  • Conflict Management for Security Guards

 

 

 

UNIT 1

The aim is to develop the learner’s knowledge so that they can assess their work environment and reduce the risk to people, property and premises, by providing effective security and deal with incidents in accordance with agreed procedures.

 

There are twelve outcomes to this unit. The learner can: 

  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of the Security Guard
  • Identify the requirements for effective patrolling 
  • Identify the requirements for controlling access
  • Identify the requirements for search procedures
  • Identify security and emergency systems and procedures
  • Recognise requirements for dealing with fire
  • Identify requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act
  • Identify the role and powers of the Security Guard in law 
  • Identify requirements for dealing with emergencies
  • Identify requirements for customer care
  • Identify requirements for effective communication
  • Recognise equality and diversity in the workplace

UNIT 2

The aim is to provide the basic understanding to deal effectively with workplace violence.

There are three outcomes to this unit. The learner can:

  • Assess and reduce the risk of violence in the work environment
  • Identify behaviour that indicates an escalation towards violence and take appropriate measures to avoid or calm and defuse the situation

 

  • Identify post incident support and report the circumstances to provide information for personal and organisation learning
