Providing Security Services NVQ Level 2

The Providing Security Services qualification allows learners to demonstrate they have the necessary skills and knowledge to do their job. The qualification has been designed for those already employed in the security industry. The qualification focuses on five occupation areas:

• Static and Patrol guarding.
• Retail security.
• Reception security.
• Door supervision.
• CCTV operation.

The qualification covers all areas which are common to all security officers but also enables the learner to specialise in a specific security area.

Mandatory units:

• Unit 1 - Make sure your own actions reduce risks to health and safety
• Unit 2 - Give customers a positive impression of you and your organisation
• Unit 3 - Communicate effectively and efficiently in the workplace
• Unit 4 - Control security incidents
• Unit 5 - Produce documents

Optional units

• Unit AG12 -  Liaise with other services
• Unit CTV13 - Maintain CCTV recording libraries and preserve potential evidence
• Unit HSS1 -  Make sure your actions reduce risks to health and safety
• Unit HSS7 -  Make sure your own actions aim to protect the environment
• Unit ICS9 -  Give customers a positive impression of you and your organisation
• Unit SLP2 -  Communicate effectively and efficiently in the workplace
• Unit SLP4 -  Control security incidents
• Unit SLP6 -  Maintain the security of property and premises through observation
• Unit SLP7 -  Control entry to and egress from premises 94
• Unit SLP8 -  Carry out searches of people and property for unauthorised items
• Unit SLP9 -  Provide security at licensed venues
• Unit SLP10 - Carry out searches of vehicles for unauthorised items
• Unit SLP11 - Arrest people suspected of committing an offence
• Unit SLP12 - Deal with disorderly and aggressive behaviour
• Unit SLP13 - Monitor areas using CCTV systems
• Unit SLP15 - Maintain the operational performance of CCTV systems
• Unit SLP16 - Provide covert security in retail environments
• Unit SLP17 - Detect loss and theft in retail environments
• Unit SLP18 - Control a guard dog under operational conditions
• Unit SLP22 - Deal with lost and found property
• Unit SLP25 - Maintain an understanding of legislation relevant to your role
• Unit SLP26 - Record information relevant to your role
