IOSH Managing Safely at The Royal Opera House
Steve Rands has just completed the first set of IOSH Managing Safely courses for The Royal Opera House in London.
Steve believes that any company that undertakes to provide Managing Safely for its managers and staff are not only providing them with a solid foundation in managerial health and safety responsibilities but also are going a long way to demonstrating that they as an organisation take the health, safety and welfare of employees seriously.
With the Royal Opera House, Steve took the time to fully understand their specific needs in a very unique environment. Before getting near the classroom, he went on attachment with the client to learn how they work in order that he was fully prepared for the wide range of delegates that would be attending.
With that newly acquired knowledge Steve was able to fully engage with the delegates and deliver the course in a way that used workplace examples relevant to them. Using images of the various work areas he was able to adapt the style of delivery for all areas of The Royal Opera House from front of house through to back stage, from scenery construction to the orchestra. This approach not only made the delegates engage more in group discussion but also assisted in them understanding the subject that was applicable to their own workplace.
